Spring 2012 Registration

By submitting your child’s Registration, you acknowledge that you have read, understand and agree to all of the following terms and conditions:

Spring 2012 Season Dates: The Spring regular season runs from February 25, 2012 (Opening Day) through June 2, 2012 (City Championship Saturday); provided that no official League games will be scheduled over Santa Monica/Malibu Unified School District’s Spring Break (i.e., from March 31 though April 15). Some Divisions do not begin play until March.

League Age and Residency: A player’s “League Age” is determined as of April 30, 2012. League Boundaries include all of the City of Santa Monica and the area South of Sunset Boulevard from the Pacific Ocean to Allenford Avenue. CLICK HERE to see our League Boundary Map. Proof of your child’s legal residence (as defined by Little League Baseball, Incorporated) and your child’s League Age must be furnished upon request. If any controversy arises regarding a player’s League Age or legal residence for purposes of participation in Little League activities, the decision of the Little League, International Charter Committee in Williamsport shall be final and binding. Players residing outside the League boundaries who do not already have a waiver from Little League International must contact  registrar@smll.com before registering

Divisions. CLICK HERE for a description of each Division in our League and Field locations for each Division. Players will be assigned to the lower Divisions based on League Age and experience. Players may be selected to play on a Majors Division team, before or during the Spring season. Players of the correct League Age according to Little League rules who decline to move up to the Majors Division may forfeit eligibility for the Majors Division for the balance of that season, and may be reassigned to another team within their current division.

Tryouts. ALL players League Age 8 years and older (including returning Majors Division players) must attend tryouts in January, at which League Age and residency will be verified. Notices will be sent in late December to players League Age 8 years and older designating their tryout date and time in January. Younger Players will receive their team assignments in February. A completed medical release form must be submitted for each player at tryouts (and for the younger players at their first practice).

Player Participation and Code of Conduct. Little League Baseball is a team sport requiring at least 9 players to arrive on time and ready to play or the game must be forfeited. The player time commitment for the Rookies Division and above entails at least one practice and often two games each week, from February through the first week of June. By registering your child for Santa Monica Little League (for Rookies Division and above), you agree to make Little League Baseball your child’s priority sports activity for the duration of the Spring Little League Season. Players who are consistently absent may be subject to dismissal, or reassignment to a different team or Division. Players who register for the Spring season but drop out of the League after being assigned to a team (without a documented medical reason) may be barred from further participation in League activities. All parents and players are required to abide by the Little League Code of Conduct.

League Age 8-16........................................... $180.00

In addition to the Registration Fee, a $30 Concession Deposit will be collected upon registration for each player League Ages 9 through 12. Your Concession Deposit will be refunded at your request upon completion by an adult volunteer of a three hour shift at the Memorial Park Snack Bar before the end of Spring Regular Season play.

SMLL Scholarship Fund. Santa Monica Little League is open to all children, regardless of their family’s ability to pay. To offset the costs associated with providing SMLL scholarships, we urge all families who are able to make a small donation at the time of Registration. For more Scholarship information, please contact registrar@smll.com.

All Star Tournament Teams. All Star Tournament Teams for the League Age 9-10, 10-11, 11- 12, and Juniors Divisions are selected in June. Criteria for selection to an All Star Tournament Team is based on Eligibility, Availability and Ability. Past selection to an All Star Tournament Team does not ensure that a player will be selected again. To meet the Eligibility requirement, a player must (i) be the correct League Age, (ii) have participated in not less than 60% of the regular Spring Season in that Division, and (iii) reside within the League boundaries. The Availability requirement refers to the whether or not the player will be available to practice and play with the Tournament Team throughout the course of Tournament play, which extends at a minimum from the second week in June through mid-July, and possibly through the end of August (depending on a Tournament Team’s success). Players who wish to be considered for selection to an All Star Tournament Team will be required to submit a signed All Star Qualification Form on before March 15, 2012, confirming both the player’s Eligibility and Availability for All Star play. Parents of players who do not meet the residency component of the Eligibility requirement shall be responsible for advising the SMLL Player Agent that they believe they qualify for a Little League Regulation II d. Residency Waiver, and the basis of such Waiver qualification. A Little League Regulation II d. Residency Waiver must be obtained on or before March 31, 2012 in order for such player to be considered for selection.

Uniforms and Equipment. Jersey’s and belts for the AAA Divisions and above, as well as any other equipment provided by the League, must be returned to the League at the end of the final game of the season in as good a condition as when received, normal wear and tear excepted.
